You are what you eat. In that sense, this book isn’t just about food. It’s about our relationship to all of life on earth, to each other, to ourselves. What we do matters. Our plates and bowls, our forks and knives are shapers of ecosystems. We can grow a revolution, literally from the ground up. This book is not so much a journey into the food system, but a journey within. There we find the roots of culture. And with hope and inspiration as our harvest, anything is possible. Are you in?
Will Work for Food A Book of Inspiration Poems and Edible Action Jared Posey Books
I love this book. It’s playful and wise in the tradition of another great Oregon writer, novelist/essayist Brian Doyle. I savored every page (like a good meal from the back yard, yum) and read many passages several times and found myself thinking about them all day, and smiling. Author Jared Posey paints a hopeful future and puts each of us in that future with dignity and grace and a healthy smudge of garden dirt on our chins. And… okay, I happen to know Jared from our time together in Alaska (Glacier Bay) and was flabbergasted to see that he dedicated this little book to me, and to his beautiful wife, Katie, and to his then-forthcoming child (since born in early July, a son, Cedar Kai). Dear world, read this book. It’s a gem; a fitting tribute to this muddy, lovely, rainy, sunny bountiful earth that nurtures us daily and only asks to be nurtured in return. As Jared says “…to the forces greater than us, may we hear your music and play it with our bones.”Product details

A beautifully written collection of thought-provoking, smile-inducing poetry. Jared Posey's writing is wonderfully imaginative, joyfully creative, and has a unique flavor all its own! His words paint the beauty of this amazing planet we call home, while also opening our hearts to some of the many ways our home is crying out for our help and compassion. A wonderful book to keep on your nightstand for a daily dose of insight and inspiration.
Jared Posey crafted his stunning lyrical (in print) debut poetry collection with humor and wit, intrigue and introspect. He deconstructs the nature of possession and boundedness and looks into corners of human existence often left ignored. Word play abounds and it is playfully interrogating. It is a great book to throw in the backpack and read away from first world distractions. You’ll have questions for yourself; a fabulous piece of work.
“Will Work for Food” is an exceptionally unique and thought-provoking collection of poetry that offers a fresh perspective on the food movement. Through his poems, Posey invites his audience to open their minds and hearts to explore the intricate relationships between food, people and our planet Earth. His central message is clear It is entirely possible to transform our lives and even the world, but the change all starts with us… through our day-to-day choices and through the food we put into our bodies and ultimately through the living systems we support.
Inspiration, humor, chicken slaughter, sustainability, soul-searching questions-- it’s all here. So just dig in and read it already! If you’re anything like me, you’ll laugh out loud and you may even cry, but you’ll be happy you did.
I was in Oregon last week, paying my tab at Finn Rock Cafe on the MacKenzie River, when I discovered this volume of poetry at the register. If you love the earth and you love poetry, you'll love this. Here is commitment to ecology without the ponderous tone. While it has plenty of serious moments, it's also about drinking the pickle juice from the jar, licking your plate. Jared Posey says, "I want knobby crooked carrots covered in dirt from the farmer down the road. I want to talk to him or her about earthworms, Wendell Berry and how we're going to change the world." This poet sees and helps us to see, too, "when the dandelion heads go white." To the earth he says, "May we hear your music and play it with our bones."
